Cade [kād]: 1. small battle; spirit of the battle

Babe [bāb]: 1. a person who always assumes positive intent, goes out of their way to uplift others and focuses their personal energy on growing what is good in the world (okay, this is not the Merriam Webster definition, it’s the Miriam Alden from Brunette the Label definition but they are changing the meaning of the word and I’m so for it!).

Hey world! My name is Chelsea, and I hope you are as excited to be here as I am. Let me tell you a tiny bit about myself. Not too much – you’ll have to keep coming back for more details 😉 First, I’m a mom to 2 incredible kids – Edie & Leo. I loved being pregnant, and love getting to know my littles as they grow and their personalities develop. Being a mom is the hardest and most rewarding thing I have ever done. Maybe there’s more to that…

I love design and art, and I’m especially inspired to create an inspiring living space for myself and my family. I hope to share our home renovations, inspiration and mood boards I create to plan our next home project.

I’ve been vegetarian for 20 years and lead a mostly plant-based lifestyle now. I love gardening and cooking. I am drawn to the healing properties that whole foods can bring to our bodies and help us live our best life. I also love natural and clean health and beauty products that I want to share with you too!

More recently yoga, meditation and Ayurveda play an important role in my life. I hope I can share my daily practices with you to help you get the most of your mind, body and spirit.

I have loved fashion my entire life. I studied fashion in college and became a buyer for a new local boutique in Saskatchewan. I also co-founded Saskatchewan Fashion Week which ran for 8 years giving a platform to local, independent designers. I managed Coda for 5 years before I became a partner. We expanded with 4 different identities and experienced a roller coaster of ups and downs for 12 years. We pushed until our breaking point, and closed at the end of February 2020. This was my dream and having it end left me heart broken.

The first known usage of the name Cade was Jack Cade who was the leader of a major rebellion against the government of King Henry VI of England. I’ve definitely been influenced by rebellious attitudes – which have highly influenced my personal style. Most importantly though, the name Cade means “small battle or Spirit of the Battle” I think that is too perfect. We didn’t name the shop because of this (Cade was originally derived from the musical term Cadence) but the new adaptation worked too perfectly with the name meaning.

I’ve always wanted to own a clothing store, but let me tell you it is not easy. Being an entrepreneur has nothing short of small battles – never ending, small battles. When we decided to close the shop, the small battles escalated. Only this time they were inside my head. My mental health had been slowly deteriorating and every day was a battle just to get out of bed. I’ve learned many things from this journey, and one of them is that I am afraid of failure. That’s a scary thing to be afraid of when you are an entrepreneur and have high expectations of yourself. If you are afraid of failure, you often don’t even try. I was (and still am) struggling a lot by the idea that I have failed. That I didn’t meet my goals. That I let people down. And that my friends, is the inspiration in starting this blog. I feel called to share my stories, my thoughts, and my experiences with the community that I worked so hard to build. I know that there is light at the end of the tunnel, and I want to share that light with all of you so that one day, maybe my stories will help you through a difficult time.
