About 15 years ago, I went to college for Fashion Design and Marketing. I was inspired by “eco-fashion” and with my doe-eyed naivety I did as many assignments as I could with an air of sustainability and looked toward a future of sustainable manufacturing and consumerism.
Fast forward a decade. I owned a couple of lifestyle clothing and footwear stores but nothing seemed to be trending towards the clean, hopeful, kind clothing I had once dreamed of. As trends roller-coastered and online shopping prevailed our buying program focused on cheaper and faster. Often seasons would go by and I found myself uninspired and uninterested in the clothing I sold in my very own store. Things I was drawn to were unique and never sold, and the same mundane cookie cutter pieces sold season after season. Looking back at those times it perhaps seems a bit more clear why my business suffered. There is a lot of reasons, but now I can see my soul just wasn’t in it 100%. Don’t get me wrong, I loved my business and the people it brought into my life. But the clothes, the trends and the competition tore me apart.
I’ve now had almost a year to reflect on the things I’ve learned and reconnect to me and what I truly care about. I started to unfollow all of the old brands, influencers and stores that fogged my feeds and my inbox and started following influencers and brands that supported ethical, sustainable and women-owned businesses. Suddenly, I started to discover an entire world I had wished existed.
I really do believe that we can make a difference – and that’s why I want to be here. To share the treasures and facts I’ve found, to teach new ways of shopping, and to discover with you a world of passion, beautiful design and love.
I hope you follow along on this journey. And if you feel obliged, please follow, comment and share. Every little bit helps!
